Type 2 diabetes: Eating this juicy fruit snack proven to lower blood sugar

A healthy body is able to produce a hormone known as insulin which is made in the pancreas. The pancreas senses when glucose has entered the body and releases the right amount of insulin. This insulin allows the glucose in the blood to enter the cells. However a person with type 2 diabetes can’t produce or doesn’t have enough of the insulin needed, and as such the glucose builds up in the blood rather than the cells.

Research has shown grapes are the leading fruit to curb type 2 diabetes.

In order to prevent type 2 diabetes or keep blood sugar in check, it’s advised a person eats a healthy balanced diet.

According to experts most fruits are optimal for maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.

Fruits are loaded with nutrients and fibre which are vital for good health.

But in particular, research has shown grapes are the leading fruit to curb type 2 diabetes.

Research found those who ate the most grapes had 12 percent less chance of developing type 2 diabetes. 

This is because grapes contain polyphenols which can have positive effects on the blood sugar levels.

As the sugar in fruit is natural (fructose) – as opposed to sugar found in cakes and sweets – type 2 diabetics are allowed to tuck into their favourite fruits.

However it is worth noting that fruit juices and ripening of fruits does change their glycemic index (GI) scores.

GI is a relative ranking of carbohydrates in foods according to how they affect blood glucose levels.

Other fruits recommend for type 2 diabetes include:

  • Blueberries
  • Oranges
  • Apples
  • Bananas
  • Cherries
  • Grapefruit

A build up of glucose in the blood leads to diabetes symptoms and over time could lead to serious health damages.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes to watch out for, according to the NHS, include:

  • Peeing more than usual, particularly at night
  • Feeling thirsty all the time
  • Feeling very tired
  • Losing weight without trying to
  • Itching around your penis or vagina, or repeatedly getting thrush
  • Cuts or wounds taking longer to heal
  • Blurred vision

Type 2 diabetes complications can include long-term damage to the eyes, kidneys, nerves, feet, and heart attack and stroke.

Some experts suggest supplements can help lower blood sugar.
